Rebecca Askew is an experienced freelance performer, composer, vocal animateur, musical director and theatre maker with a background in jazz and improvised music; she studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
As both a soloist and an ensemble musician, she performs in venues large and small, including Shakespeare's Globe, the National Theatre and Regent's Park Open Air Theatre.
As a composer and bandleader, she has toured her music to venues and festivals around the UK and abroad, including the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Linbury Theatre (Royal Opera House). She receives commissions for her work and has written and arranged many choral pieces.

An evening of songs and stories that celebrate female jazz composers of the twentieth century, including tales of the woman who was a key figure in shaping the sound of the big band era; the woman from south London who became one of the only three women immortalised in Art Kane’s iconic photo Great Day in Harlem and the mystery of the two Irenes.
